This updated Charter recognises that our planet faces escalating ecological breakdown, displacement, inequality and social division. Compassion can no longer be seen only as a personal virtue. It must inspire change within communities, institutions and global systems so that all life can flourish.
The revised text calls for a deep shift from separation to belonging, from domination to coexistence, and from extractive ways of living to economies of care. It encourages healing within ourselves and across society, supporting dignity, justice and wellbeing for people and the living world.
As part of this renewal, the Charter for Compassion 2.0 Guidebook offers practical guidance and real-world examples to help individuals, organisations and communities take compassionate action in education, health, governance, the environment and daily life.
Charter 2.0 does not replace the original Charter launched in 2009. Instead, it preserves its heart while strengthening its relevance in a rapidly changing global landscape.
For Australia, this global update offers both inspiration and practical tools. It supports local initiatives that nurture belonging, social justice and kindness, while connecting us to a worldwide movement committed to compassion in action.
